NAPPANEE – NorthWood High School Athletic Director AJ Risedorph announced the promotion of Austin Hamsher to Head Coach of the NorthWood Girls Cross Country program. Hamsher succeeds longtime Head Coach Mark Mikel, who led the program for many years and helped establish a tradition of competitive excellence and student-athlete development. A 2006 NorthWood High School graduate, Hamsher was a four-year, three-sport athlete for the Panthers before continuing his academic and athletic career at Trine University. He earned a degree in Business Management while competing as a four-year member of the university's track and field program. Hamsher brings extensive coaching experience to the position. He enters his fifth season working with the NorthWood Girls Cross Country program and has spent the past 14 years coaching within the NorthWood Girls Track and Field program. During that time, he has helped guide numerous athletes and relay teams to postseason success, including tournament championships and state-level competition. "Austin has demonstrated a deep commitment to NorthWood Athletics and our student-athletes throughout his years as an assistant coach," said AJ Risedorph, NorthWood High School Athletic Director. "His passion for distance running, ability to build relationships, and dedication to developing young people make him an outstanding choice to lead our girls cross country program. We are excited about the future of the program under his leadership." Outside of coaching, Hamsher is an active runner and triathlete who regularly participates in endurance sports and promotes healthy, active lifestyles. He is also a local business owner whose experience in leadership, customer service, problem-solving, and relationship building has helped shape his coaching philosophy and approach to mentoring student-athletes. "I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the NorthWood Girls Cross Country program," said Hamsher. "NorthWood is a special place, and I have been fortunate to work alongside incredible coaches and student-athletes over the past several years. I am excited to continue building a positive team culture while helping our athletes reach their full potential both on and off the course." Hamsher said his commitment to personal growth, family, and community aligns closely with the values he hopes to instill in the program's student-athletes as they pursue success in competition, the classroom, and everyday life. NorthWood Athletics expects a smooth transition as Hamsher assumes leadership of a program with a strong foundation and a history of excellence within the Northern Lakes Conference and IHSAA competition.
